Feature Spotlight: Invite Friends, and What Has to Happen Before It Pays
There is a button in your user menu that this blog has never mentioned once. Not in a hundred and thirty articles. It says Invite Friends, it opens a modal, and behind it is a full referral system with rewards, milestones and a qualification rule — and that last part is the reason for writing this up. The reward does not land when your friend signs up. It lands one step later, and knowing which step saves you wondering whether the whole thing is broken.
Where It Is
Open your user menu from the header, on any page. Invite Friends sits there alongside the rest. It is site-wide, so you never have to go looking for a particular screen.
What Both Sides Get
Worth noticing that it pays both ways. A lot of referral systems reward only the person doing the inviting, which quietly makes the invitation a favour being asked. Here the person arriving gets NP on top of the normal welcome bonus, plus the same Premium Points you get, so there is something in it for whoever you send it to.
The Rule Worth Knowing
Here is the part nobody has written down. Nothing pays out when your friend creates an account. The reward is granted when they verify their email address, and not a moment before.
So the sequence is: they use your invite, they register, and then nothing happens. If they never open the verification email, nothing continues to happen, indefinitely. The instant they click the link in it, the whole set of rewards lands on both sides at once.
If a referral looks stuck
Almost every case of “I invited someone and got nothing” is an unverified email address sitting in a spam folder. That is a single sentence to send them, and it is a much better first move than assuming the system is broken. It is also the whole of the difference between a referral that pays and one that does not.
Why gate it there rather than at signup? Because an unverified account is not yet a person. Paying on registration would reward creating accounts, which is a different activity from bringing someone to Nutopia, and one that a referral system with real rewards would attract very quickly. Verification is the cheapest available proof that somebody actually arrived.
Milestones
Beyond the per-referral reward there are five milestones, paid on top as achievement rewards when your count of qualified referrals reaches each number:
Note that these count qualified referrals, which follows from the rule above: five people who registered and never verified is a count of zero, not five.
Two Things the System Does Carefully
Both of these are invisible when they work, which is the point of mentioning them.
It cannot pay twice. The grant takes a lock on the referral record and checks a not-yet-qualified flag before doing anything, so if the qualification is triggered from more than one place at once — and there is more than one route into it — exactly one of them pays. You will not see a doubled reward and neither will your friend.
It never costs your friend their verification. The reward runs after their email is confirmed and is deliberately best-effort: if anything about the payout fails, the failure is recorded and their verification still succeeds. Nobody's account is held hostage to a bonus. That ordering is a design decision rather than an accident, and it is the right way round.
What this is not
This is not an earning strategy and we are not going to dress it up as one. It pays once per person who genuinely joins and verifies, and the milestones are spread far enough apart that nobody is farming them. Invite people you actually think would enjoy Nutopia. That is the entire intended use.
The Bottom Line
The Invite Friends button in your user menu pays 250 NP to you, 100 NP to your friend on top of their welcome bonus, and 25 PP to each of you — but only once they verify their email, which is the step everybody forgets. Five milestones stack on top at 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 qualified referrals. And if a referral looks stuck, check the spam folder before you check anything else.
